Here are some of the stories making headlines in conservative politics today: Trump says the US is ready to retaliate for Saudi oil strike, blames Iran; NY Times walks back Kavanaugh accusations; Kim invites Trump to Pyongyang in the letter.
US President Donald Trump has vowed to help allies in the Middle East after a drone attack occurred on Saudi Arabia oil supplies over the weekend. The attack has caused an immediate spike in worldwide oil prices to the highest levels since 1991.
US officials are claiming to possess satellite imagery that claims that Iran was likely responsible for the attack which occurred on two major oil fields in eastern Saudi Arabia on Saturday.
Despite Houthi rebels in Yemen claiming responsibility, US secretary of state Mike Pompeo blamed Iran for the attack.
Trump tweeted: “Saudi Arabia oil supply was attacked. There is reason to believe that we know the culprit, are locked and loaded depending on verification, but are waiting to hear from the Kingdom as to who they believe was the cause of this attack, and under what terms we would proceed!”
The New York Times has made a major revision to its “bombshell” opinion piece written by two New York Times reporters who published new allegations of sexual assault against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The initial story prompted nearly every 2020 Democratic presidential candidate to call for Kavanaugh’s impeachment.
The revisions made by the Times now says that several friends of the alleged victim said she did not recall the purported sexual assault in question at all. Further, the Times stated that the alleged victim has refused to be interviewed and has made no comment about the episode.
Trump sounded off in a trio of tweets early Monday morning:
“Just Out: “Kavanaugh accuser doesn’t recall incident.” @foxandfriends DO YOU BELIEVE WHAT THESE HORRIBLE PEOPLE WILL DO OR SAY. They are looking to destroy, and influence his opinions – but played the game badly. They should be sued!”
“‘The New York Times walks back report on Kavanaugh assault claim.’ @foxandfriends The one who is actually being assaulted is Justice Kavanaugh – Assaulted by lies and Fake News! This is all about the LameStream Media working with their partner, the Dems.”
“‘What’s happening to Justice Kavanaugh is a disgrace. This guy is not a good man, he is a great man. He has to go to his church with his family while these terrible reports are being written about him, a disgrace!’ Dan Bongino”
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has allegedly invited President Trump to visit Pyongyang after the White House has reportedly received a letter from the dictator. While the letter is reportedly pre-dated a week ago, received before the departure of former national security advisor John Bolton, his departure could assist in improved negotiations.
North Korea had expressed displeasure with Bolton, calling him a “warmonger” and a “defective human product” who called for regime change and preemptive strikes. Last week, President Trump himself had accused Bolton of scaring Kim away from negotiations by mentioning the “Libya model” in terms of what form a denuclearization agreement with North Korea might take.
