Finally something President Donald Trump and Democrats can agree on… Trump has pressed the pause button on the stimulus package, asking for an increase in stimulus checks for Americans to $2000 per individual.
Democrats cheering a decision by President Trump? No, hell didn’t just freeze over.
Unfathomably, three of the president’s biggest critics – Pelosi, AOC, and Sanders – are all applauding Trump’s move to hit the pause button on signing the COVID-19 stimulus package, as he wants to see the $600 stimulus check amount raised to $2000.
President Trump criticized the $900 billion stimulus package over its allocations to foreign countries, the Kennedy Center, research projects, and a number of non-COVID-19 related objectives, Fox reported.
“It’s called the Covid relief bill but it has almost nothing to do with Covid,” President Trump noted. “The bill also allows stimulus checks for the family members of illegal aliens, allowing them to get up $1,800 each. This is far more than the Americans are given.
“Despite all of this wasteful spending, and much more, the $900 billion package provides hard-working taxpayers with only $600 each in relief payments and not enough money is given to small businesses,” Trump stated, “and in particular restaurants, whose owners have suffered so grievously.”
In the rarest of rare events, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) adamantly agreed with President Trump that the amount of the stimulus checks going to Americans should be raised.
“Republicans repeatedly refused to say what amount the President wanted for direct checks,” Pelosi tweeted. “At last, the President has agreed to $2,000 — Democrats are ready to bring this to the Floor this week by unanimous consent. Let’s do it!”
Sanders also agreed with increasing the stimulus checks and took credit for first introducing the idea.
“That’s great!” Sanders tweeted. “I first introduced a bill to provide a $2,000 direct payment with @SenKamalaHarris & @EdMarkey 7 months ago. Now, Mr. President, get Mitch McConnell and your Republican friends to stop opposing it and we can provide working class Americans with $2,000. Let’s do it.”
Progressive firebrand and self-described democratic socialist, representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) also enthusiastically voiced her support, while trying to take credit for the idea of increasing the checks.
“Let’s do it,” AOC tweeted. “@RashidaTlaib and I already co-wrote the COVID amendment for $2,000 checks, so it’s ready to go. Glad to see the President is willing to support our legislation. We can pass $2k checks this week if the Senate GOP agrees to stand down.”
