Republican lawmakers in the House are demanding hearings on two issues: “The integrity of the 2020 election” and violence against Trump supporters at the MAGA March; plus more of today’s top stories and politics.

Republican lawmakers demand immediate hearings to “examine the integrity of the 2020 election”

Two Republicans in Congress are calling for immediate hearings to be convened in order to allow lawmakers to “examine the integrity of the 2020 election.”

Late Wednesday evening, Representatives Jim Jordan (R-OH) and James Comer (R-KY) sent a letter to Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and Oversight Panel Chair Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) demanding an immediate congressional investigation, the Daily Wire reports.

The letter follows a statement last week by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency asserting that the 2020 elections were the “most secure in American history.”

However, the letter by the lawmakers pointed to three incidents in Georgia that unearth over 5000 previously uncounted ballots, saying “the serious concerns give rise to the urgent need for congressional oversight of the integrity of the 2020 election.”

House Republicans demand hearing to examine violence against Trump supporters after Million MAGA March

Three top on the House Oversight Committee, House Oversight Committee Ranking Member James Comer (R-KY), Rep. Jody Hice (R-GA), and Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) are demanding in a letter to Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney, that she holds a hearing to examine the violence against supporters of President Trump after the “Million MAGA March” in Washington, D.C. last weekend, according to an exclusive report by Fox.

The Republicans are also seeking answers from D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, taking her to task for her “silence” on the issue and claim it is part of a “broader pattern of viewpoint discrimination.” Further, they criticized the failure of D.C.’s leaders to “afford basic protections” to the attendees, alleging it is “another concerning example of viewpoint discrimination in the district.”

During the daylight hours, there was a peaceful gathering of Trump supporters and their families at the Million MAGA March in Washington, D.C. However, as night fell, violence against Trump supporters, particularly the elderly, was well documented by reporters who cited Antifa and BLM as the perpetrators.

The violent attacks saw them beating, robbing, and throwing explosive projectiles. Several fires were started on Freedom Plaza.

Kevin McCarthy is reelected as House Republican leader

Amid voting in the 117th Congress, Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was reelected to be the leader of the Republicans in the US House of Representatives, Fox reported.

In 2020, Republicans gained a number of seats in the House with at least 12 freshman Republican women winning their house races, with more yet to be called, Fox reported. Although Democrats won control of the House, they have fewer seats in the 117th Congress, as Republican flipped 15 seats so far.
